A letter from Calafia's First Officer

Thank you for your interest in applying for a scholarship from the Calafia local council of the Covenant of the Goddess (CoG).  The deadline for academic year 2008 is May 31, 2008 - 5:00 PST.

As you might expect, many more applications for scholarships may be received than can be awarded.  Therefore, it is essential that you submit a completed application by the established deadline and that you meet the eligibility criteria.  Furthermore, you must ensure that the application is typed and that all attachments contain your full name and social security number.

Application for a scholarship from Calafia is comprised of six parts:

  1. Identify the Wiccan that resides within the geographic area supported by the Calafia Local Council and their relationship to you.

  2. Provide pertinent information on the attached form which will help Calafia determine whether you meet the minimum eligibility requirements.  This includes obtaining certification of financial need from your campus Office of Student Financial Aid.

  3. Prepare and submit an essay.

  4. Submit a high school or college transcript indicating your most recent academic work, including Fall semester/quarter, 2007.

  5. Supply a copy of the letter you received from the college or university to which you applied as evidence of your acceptance.  A current college transcript will also be accepted as evidence of enrollment.

  6. Submit a letter of recommendation from your academic counselor, advisor, member of COG, recognized elder, or faculty member.

All parts submitted together will constitute the entire and complete application, and it must be received by Calafia at the address below by May 31, 2008 - 5:00 PST.  All applications will be kept confidential. No exceptions will be made and all decisions are final.  All applicants will be informed of a decision in writing by July 1, 2008. If you are awarded funds further information may be required.

Please mail (facsimiles not accepted) your completed application to:

    The Covenant of the Goddess
    Calafia Local Council
    PO Box 17640
    San Diego, CA 92177

Sincerely,

First Officer, Calafia Local Council

Eligibility Criteria for Scholarship Applicants

Please review the following information carefully before completing the scholarship application.
To be eligible for consideration for a scholarship from the Calafia Local Council of the Covenant of the Goddess, students must meet the following criteria:

  1. Applicant must be a Wiccan or the child of a Wiccan living in the geographic area supported by the Calafia, SoCal, Orange County, Touchstone or Pronghorn Moon Local Councils.

  2. Must have been accepted or be enrolled as a full- or part-time student (graduate or undergraduate) at an accredited institution of higher education.

  3. Must be in good academic standing with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.00 or better on a 4.00 scale.

  4. Must be a U.S. citizen residing in one of the states or the territories of the United States of America.

These criteria are being reconsidered. Failure to meet any of these criteria does not necessarily disqualify you from being considered for our scholarship. We encourage you to apply in the interim.

The amount of the Calafia scholarship for Fall 2008 is $500.00 for full-time students and $250.00 for part-time students.  This amount is to be used to purchase textbooks for registered classes.
